Sweetened condensed milk – homemade

You know, we’re kind of addicted to making ice cream – without an ice cream maker, but with sweetened condensed milk! So we had to find a solution very quickly to make the condensed milk ourselves.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t really get healthier – because there is still a lot of sugar in it – I mean a lot of sugar. But no more additives, and also the big company with the N at the beginning is no longer supported…

There are several ways to make sweetened condensed milk yourself. Some use cornstarch, of course the whole thing thickens much faster of course. I took the simple version first. Milk and sugar. And a little patience. Nothing more.

Ingredients sweetened condensed milk

  • 1 liter full fat milk
  • 250 g Sugar
  • optional a touch of Vanilla

The list of ingredients is therefore very clear. But that’s nice, isn’t it?

A large pot is important for the preparation, because the milk has to boil in order to reduce down and therefore always rolls up a bit. The larger the surface of the pot, the faster the milk reduces. You have to take care of it a little bit, but no need to stand next to it all the time. The whole thing takes about 30 -40 minutes at low heat and then you have a nice viscous, shiny condensed milk, which is in no way inferior in taste to the milk in a can!

Caution: the condensed milk continues to thicken as it cools. The milk should reduce by about half, so you will get 500 ml of sweetened condensed milk.

Bottled in a sterile bottle, the sweetened condensed milk keeps for 1 week and beyond, but I prefer to use it quickly.

Description

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 litre of milk
  • 250 g sugar
  • optimal a pinch of Vanilla

Instructions

  1. Bring milk to the boil
  2. Stir in sugar
  3. Let it boil down on low heat for about 40 minutes, stirring well every time!

Notes

Take a sufficiently large pot, then you don’t have to worry all the time, it could boil over!
